Having only tested the car for 2 days prior to this event he is using a prototype version of the YZ-4, which features a new shortened chassis plate, centrally mounted steering servo and larger outer belt pullies. In terms of set-up, he is working with his teammates to find the perfect balance for the car between hard to drive and fast and has changed the front spring, rear swaybar and rear shock position.
Maifield’s Yokomo YZ-4 with JConcepts S4 body.
Like other team drivers, Ryan is using a 4.6mm shorter chassis than the standard buggy and helps it rotate better.
Ryan uses a Team Orion 5.5T motor along with Team Orion Vortex R10 Pro speed control.
The YZ-4 comes equipped with a slipper instead of a gear diff at the center while the rear sees a ball diff although he did test with a gear diff as well.

Maifield changed out the pulleys to prototype ones that are bigger and more efficient.
Ryan is also running centerline servo instead of the normally offset placement on the left.
