My intentions was to make both cars as easy to drive and try not to embarrass myself during the event. It was then a no-brainer to opt for the steel chassis from XRAY after hearing only positive feedback about its performance on carpet.
The cars were very stable and predictable from the beginning. However, as I became more comfortable with the track, I felt that they were slightly too easy to drive and lacked overall steering.
To improve this, I made a few changes throughout the weekend:
- Increased front camber gain
- Narrowed the front track width
- Softer front springs
- Increased front chassis flex
These changes helped give the cars more steering while maintaining the stability and confidence I was looking for.
With limited track time, needing to drive b2b 2wd and 4wd(huge stressful), and my lack of off-road skills, it could have gone a lot worst. But towards the end, I was feeling connected with both my cars and I think these will be a solid start for medium grip carpet tracks.
