My ORCA power XRAY XB2C 25 setups from the R/C Plus Classic over the weekend.
I started the weekend with a setup very close to what I ran up at DieHard Rug Champs with only a small number of changes being made over the race.
The big change was going from the 3 gear to 5 gear transmission after the second round of qualifying. In my opinion, at least on high grip carpet, the 5 gear makes the car a tiny bit better at just about everything.
It corners flatter, does not dive as much on brake and throttle inputs and has more corner speed. All of these effects are minor but when combined add up to a real noticeable improvement. I was also surprised how much more stable the car became on the corner stepdown, I was not expecting that.
I did notice a slight reduction when it comes to in air control, but as a driver that has almost zero in air ability it was a worthy tradeoff for me.
The question of durability when it comes to a 5 gear transmission is valid, and I am curious to see how it holds up. I have high hopes given what I have heard from other Xray drivers. |
