By popular demand, I’ve created a battery tray that fits full size (non-shorty) batteries into RC8B4e.
It is sized to accept two 2s packs on their side, so the tray is a bit wider than the B4e kit version. It’s also mounted much further forward as you can see.
IT IS ONLY A 3D PRINTABLE PART (for now). There will likely be a molded version but not for a while. I’m trying to get this out to you guys as soon as I could.
YOU WILL NEED: #81431 RC8B3.2 side guard. These are the wide side guards that come stock on RC8B4. The stock RC8B4e side guards are narrow and the tray will not fit. The electric body won't fit these side guards. The nitro body won't really accept such a tall battery but you can trim it out to fit.... mostly. Lol.
The mounting hardware is the same. The battery strap can’t be routed under the tray, it must go over the surface the battery touches. I’ve posted images on how to do this! You can use the same B4e strap. The tray will only mount in the forward mount battery position holes.
I’ve added the .stl file to the AE website under RC8B4e ‘Manuals & Setups’. It’s free. For those that don’t have a printer, I’ve also added it to the Area 51 Shapeways store for 0% markup. The price will depend on the material you select. Again, AE is not making money on the Shapeways parts. The prices are whatever the base price on Shapeways is for that material. You can also use a printing service like Craft cloud (Craftcloud3d) to get one. If you have a friend with a printer, buy them a Topo Chico and ask them nicely to print it for you. I will probably print a few and carry them with me to races if you see me. I also accept Topo Chico 🙃
If you’re familiar with printing, I’ve does mine with SLS using Nylon 12 powder.
