When I went to the Hobbyplex, the track was much larger, and since we were racing at one of the biggest 1/10 scale races of the summer, the track also had a lot more grip then the blown out layout at my local track, So naturally I had to find a counter for the grip increase, I found this change to be my springs. At Fastlane, I usually run a red in the front, and a gold in the rear, however when going to the higher traction scenarios, I found myself running a 1up yellow in the front. this obviously made my car have way less steering, but I knew that most drivers were on the yellow front springs, and they were using either the gold, or the Associated white, the gold is the stiffer of the two, I copied some settings that gave the car a little more steering (added kickup and shortened front link). My car still had too little steering. I had to make a change that involved changing the spring feel, without changing the spring, which is literally what we use progression for in touring car. I ended up on the outer hole in the arm. Car was great, however I wanted a little bit more mid corner steering, in order to accomplish this I raised my inner ball on the front camber link. This made the car… acceptable, until qualifying day of course! The real issue I had was that my car was super aggressive, to counter this, I went to 1mm of Ackermann shims, I previously had 2mm from Fastlane (im weird).
Now if I were to go back, I would 100% use this as my base setup, BUT, I did notice a few things. First off, after review of the car, I had way too little droop in the front, this caused the car to be more aggressive than it usually is. Second, my car had too much steering at the end of the straight. I didn’t roll, I had plenty of grip, I just wish I had a little less steering at the end of the straight, which is probably solvable with just a different body or wing adjustments. Third, if the track has less overall grip, I would go to the associated white spring in the rear, which FEELS like a half rate change.
