Tech Tip : B6.4 steering link spacing

To keep your steering more consistent left / right, it's ideal to have the servo horn vertical when the wheels are straight ahead. The B6.4 manual calls for a 1mm washer on the steering link, however with most servos we have found that you need 2mm spacing and with the Reedy 1705, you need 3mm to achieve a vertical servo horn.

* After making this change you must readjust your endpoints (especially for turning right) and your steering should feel more consistent.

Other tips:

  • We space the horn ballstud forward 2mm with the 1705 to set the link close to perpendicular when viewing from the top. This will depend on your servo and horn.
  • We don't use any washers under the ballstud connecting to the steering bellcrank
  • I have replaced the 10mm grub screw in the steering link with a 12mm to ensure the same thread engagement
