- Team Associated B4.1 - Kurt Wenger - SDRC - Top Gun Shootout - 03.06.2012 -

What an epic race this past weekend at SDRC Raceway! Why do they call it Top Gun Shootout? Well, SDRC is in Miramar California and right next door is the military base (back then it was Air Force, now its Marines) where they filmed Top Gun starring Tom Cruise. This was the first year this race has been ran and SDRC did a spectacular job on the track and running the race program. A lot of SoCal’s best racers, which included National and World Champions, came out in search of race glory and a nice cash payout. The race format was qualifying all day saturday, and the mains were ran on sunday that featured Triple A-Mains. If you happened to qualify in a lower main, you still had the chance to bump up all the way to the big show. Competition was close and you can check it out for yourself in the video below of all the pro triple A-mains! – Joel Navarro (Race eport)

B4 Aluminum Steering Bellcranks - P/N: AV1000
Tips: Assemble the steering rack screws with blue thread lock. Also, if you tighten down the 2 BH screws to hold the steering rack and you feel a bind in the movement, it could be that the steel pivot bushings are too short. Slide a thin motor shim over the screw before installation and this will prevent the screw from clamping onto the rack and causing drag.

B4.1 Carbon Fiber Rear Hub Tower - P/N: AV1013
Tips: The AV1013 Carbon Fiber Hub Towers fit the aluminum rear hubs (#9864, #9865, #9866, #9867) and contain the standard setup locations used on the “A” and “C” towers. Typically the 2mm lower rear link position is used on the B4 rear for smooth indoor tracks. It is also commonly used on the T4 for all conditions.

Event Name: Top Gun Shootout
Event Location: SD/RC Raceway - San Diego, CA
Event Date(s): June 2, 2012 to June 3, 2012

Located just across the street from Miramar Air Base and with the sounds of F-16s echoing throughout the building, SD/RC Raceway hosted the 1st Annual Top Gun Shootout. After a little over a year in business, the San Diego-based indoor off-road facility has gone from a small club race track to the largest in Southern California. With a topsoil-based surface and a track build assisted by Huntington Beach's OC/RC Raceway, racers were treated to their first "big race" in San Diego in years.

In attendance for Team Associated was 4x World Champion Ryan Cavalieri, 2x World Champion Brian Kinwald, Team Manager Brent Thielke, and Team Drivers Chris Jaroz, Nolan Anderson, and Kurt Wenger. With practice and club racing on Friday, the team dialed in their vehicles in preparation for the two-day event that consisted of three rounds of rocket-round qualifying and triple "A" mains for all classes.

In qualifying, it was Ryan Cavalieri who took the top qualifying positions in 2WD Modified, 4WD Modified, and 2WD Modified Short Course. The rest of the team also made it to the A Main with Kinwald representing in the 4WD Short Course class and Chris Jarosz and Brent Thielke in the 1:8 eBuggy class.

After the dust settled it was Ryan Cavalieri taking the victories in the 2WD Modified Truck with his Factory Team T4.1, 2WD Modified Short Course with his Factory Team SC10, and 4WD Modified Buggy with his Factory Team B44.1. In the 1:8 eBuggy class it was the LRP/Reedy-powered Factory Team RC8.2e buggy of Chris Jarosz that stood on the top step.

Special thanks goes out to the whole SDRC crew, Scott for putting together a great event, and of course, Hooters for the sponsorship and trophy girls.
