I've now had 3 track days with my XP10 running it in open modified at my home track. The car is super fun to drive, with my current best lap being 0.7s faster than my Modified TC best lap on the current layout. The car is a real rocket! The set-up theory and application is very similar to 1/12 pan car and hence, I've been able to get up to speed rather quickly.

Thanks to Antonino Mangiaracina for the base set-up, which has a few important parameters/modifications:

  • The battery has been pushed all the way forward against the ESC, made possible by removing the plastic backstops on the chassis, and adding a piece of foam behind the battery for support. More forward weight bias improves forward traction, and general drivability.
  • We're using a long front spring (side spring, C=1.8 for more front suspension travel). Shim it accordingly to set the correct droop and ride height. This improves front grip, mainly mid-corner.
  • We're using a T4 center dampener (#308307-K) which has more volume than the kit center dampener, for a more consistent damping action.
  • For modified racing, I recommend aftermarket 48P spur gears and pinions. The high load from the modified 2S power output, in combination with dusty tracks, makes 48P the more reliable option.
  • The CR Project Mirage 0.5mm bodyshell is mounted 2cm from the front bumper. The rear side wings extend 28mm above the bodyshell, and the rear body height is 147mm to the highest points (side wings). I am not using a gurney flap/rear wing. I recommend using 3x plastic stiffeners inside of the bodyshell per side.
