I recently raced at the Electric Singapore International Challenge at the Marine Parade RCMC track! It's a fairly fast track with medium grip, and a bumpy surface. This is what I did to improve the car for these conditions:
- Softer springs than I've been running lately, which sacrificed a bit of initial grip, but improved bump handling.
- Harder shock oil to compensate for the hot ambient temperature (30+ degrees C).
- Active rear shock tower helped improve off-power steering and bump handling.
- Higher ride height to improve bump handling, as well as high speed steering.
- Upper links (together with the optional -1mm upper clamps) improved initial response, which made the car more direct.
- Upper links closer together (less sweep) improved overall bite. See setup sheet for more details.
- Hard lower arms instead of graphite improved mechanical grip and made the car more forgiving over bumps.
- More body rake (raised rear) to improve overall grip and high speed stability.
- More toe-gain (ARS link shim) than usual improved on-power stability, especially over bumps.
As for the electronics, my Hobbywing Technology G3 ESC with the new 6.2.0.7 firmware worked perfectly in these demanding conditions!
- A rather low boost setting was preferable with a 4.5T motor on this track to not overshoot the corners too much in the infield, and to not overheat tires.
- I also geared down to 30T from my usual 31T, and changed from the optional 12.1mm rotor to the standard 12.3mm rotor, mainly to achieve a more aggressive brake feel, which was needed at the end of the straight.
- My Team EAM, Inc 6000 pack provided more than enough power for a 5 minute run, and at a low weight of only 238g, kept my CG super low, which means a nimble and responsive car handling.
