XRAY X4'24 1.5mm optional aluminium chassis FAQ! There's been a lot of buzz about this new hot item for the X4'24 car. I'm here to answer all your questions:
How does it improve handling?
It basically gives more of everything! More steering and traction. Hence why its mainly recommended for low to medium grip carpet tracks. The other benefit is the lower CG (all components being mounted 0.5mm lower). We also think it can be an option for high grip asphalt, especially in hot conditions, and where the track is sprayed (such as TITC). But also on indoor asphalt tracks, where traction rolling is an issue.
Is it appropriate for stock racing?
Even though it was mainly directed to modified racing, our stock team drivers, including Martin Hudy, Ádám Izsay and Mike Gee, have all used it with good success in spec classes in different conditions.
How much lighter is it than the kit aluminium chassis?
It's 25g lighter - keep this in mind when preparing and balancing your car for racing.
Alu flex chassis: 108g
Alu flex 1.5mm chassis: 83g
Does it bend easier than the kit aluminium chassis?
You will be surprised about how well it holds up even in hard crashes! I've used mine for months with no signs of bending. And believe it or not - I do crash too!
Do I need to adjust the set-up when changing to this chassis?
In the past we've liked raising all lower arms- as well as upper arms by 0.5mm to compensate for the thickness of the chassis. Furthermore, you may want to try a stiffer flex setting when going from a 2.0mm chassis to a 1.5mm one, such as - adding motor mount screws, going from 1.6mm to 2.0mm topdecks, or adding topdeck screws. My favourite setting for low- to medium grip has been 1.6mm topdecks in front and rear but using all 4 topdeck shoulder screws!
Do you need to use special screws?
Yes, you will need to use the #913300 specially made FH screws which have a flatter countersinking. This makes it possible to fit all car components to the chassis without any modifications.
Do you recommend applying a chassis sticker?
Yes, especially when racing on black CRC carpet, I recommend applying a PTFE sticker to reduce dragging and rubber pickup.
