The low- to medium grip ETS carpet conditions meant that I had to make some changes to my XRAY X12'26 starting set-up, which was a bit too aggressive:

  • I went from a short, to a middle pivot position, to improve drivability.
  • I changed from gold to silver side springs, to increase side bite.
  • I decreased my center shock angle from 5.0 to 3.0mm (the shimming at the rear point), for less on-power steering, and less rotation.
  • For finals day, I removed 0.5mm of Ackermann shim in between the servo saver and servo, to increase Ackermann, to further improve drivability. Also notable:
  • The battery was pushed all the way forward (resting against the small carbon stand-offs. The battery further forward improves forward drive and stability.
  • Suspension movement was limited by upstops on top of the side links, which frees up the car, and makes it more responsive at the same time.
My Hobbywing Technology electronics combo was faultless as usual, Team EAM, Inc 9200 1S battery provided exceptional punch long into the run, thanks to its high capacity and low IR.

The trusty LensBodies Ponente UL gave overall grip & stability needed to go fast around the Venetico carpet circuit. It perfectly fits the EFRA rules in terms of min. weight and max. height. No need for additional stickers/weight to reach the 30g weight with a painted body in UL configuration.

Last but not least. The most important part of the set-up (apart from the car itself) is TIRES, in this case, Hotrace Tyres Factory T-foam on soft rim. The indisputed top choice for ETS- and European style carpet for the last couple of years! I trued them a little bigger than I typically would, to improve side bite.
