I just want to share some set-up info from my recent carpet testing at Hudy Arena.

Some notable changes from my previous carpet set-ups:

  • Low ULP towers front and rear (301961 & 302961). Just like on asphalt, the low ULP towers, in combination with fully stood up shocks (see my post from back in January for more detail on the subject) has worked beautifully also on the medium grip ETS carpet surface. The feeling is similar to the standard towers with the shocks in the middle hole, but the car stays flatter and is easier to drive.

  • PSS both front and rear - the progressive shock insert in the front isn't new, and we've also used this on carpet in the past. It prevents the car from transferring too much weight onto the front axle (off power), and thus, improves cornering speeds. But, using them in the rear as well, really improved the steering from mid corner to corner exit, as they seemed to give the rear end better support in that part of the turn. Give it a try!

  • 2.5-2.8 springs both front and rear. A combo that has previously mainly been preferred on asphalt surfaces, seems to give the car good all around grip and mid corner steering also on carpet.

  • Moving the rear wing 5mm further back on the Twister body has greatly improved rear stability, without sacrificing much steering at all. This means a 5mm distance between the front edge of the wing to the edge of the wing mount. (See picture).
Please note that the picture of the car was taken before the test and is thus not completely up to date.
