My 2020 test days were spent at Laukaa and Kuusankoski, with 2 full days at each track. This gave me a chance to do a decent amount of tests with the TRF420, but there was still so much I would have wanted to try.

The TRF420 was obviously launched about 1 year ago, so all running up to this summer had been indoors on carpet. Still, the overriding feeling of the car was that it is super consistent and easy to drive. My old TRF419XR was already really consistent and easy to drive on asphalt, so I was curious to see if the TRF420 would be any better, and retaining these traits.

The results I saw from testing was that it was even an improvement on these points, with the TRF420 more easy to control on the edge, while still a fast car. The asphalt tracks in Finland are always low grip, making it fairly easy to feel differences like these. In summary, I was able to drive the TRF420 with more confidence, as any "situations" when going over the limit could easily be corrected, even with my hands of limited ability...

The setup I ended up with was fairly close to what I had been running on the TRF419X and TRF419XR, running a narrower front end being the main feature. I just find this makes the car more forgiving and smooth to drive on low-grip asphalt. On the 419X and XR I used to run 1C blocks, and the same pin width is what I ended up with on the 420. Other than that, there is nothing much special about the setup.
