Akio's setup from the ATS pilot race... placed third.
Pretty funky on the front, and soft on the shocks... but boy it was fast! - Ed Clark
Why Funky?
The setup looks really normal to me... only the shock oil is a bit softer then the "stock values", that the most of tamiya racers are using.
Springs Tamiya White and Blue, Stabilizers Medium and Soft is the typical tamiya basic ? ...
1mm shims under the front blocks, plus in one hole on the front arms. Makes a huge difference to the car. Also much longer wheelbase (no shims behind the rear arms, 1.5mm behind fronts), and a wider front with 1D/1C and 1mm axle spacer... all small-ish changes but add up to a big difference.
Yatabe was pretty cool, but no more so than some places I've been too with thicker oils. Everyone seemed to be going lower on oils though, apparently the Yokomo guys run softer on carpet than asphalt, which is a bit alien to me in all honesty.
I did try that setup and it was pretty good, but I found it a little too much for me, and had a tendancy to end up on it's roof. Did set my fastest laps with that, but lost consistency so ended up going back to a slightly more convential front end, with 0.5mm under the front blocks, and outside hole on the arm (although given how many issues I had after I probably shouldn't have bothered), but keeping the 1D/1C and 1mm axle spacer... car felt pretty good with that. - Ed Clark
