- Tamiya TRF417X - Kenneth - Finnish Nationals - Kuusankoki - 26.05.2012 -
The past weekend I finally got to run the 417X on asphalt. This at round 4 of our National series, and the first on asphalt. Preparation was as always during the past few years very good...i.e.; I run one pack on the track in Kuusankoski when I arrived on Friday before the race Saturday. The track was a bit damp Saturday morning so I only run the second control practice. So going into qualifying I had a huge number of 2 packs so far with the car on asphalt...
These first runs were a disaster pretty much, so for the second quali I made the changes I thought needed to get the car working on the low grip track. Second qualifying the car was really good, I just messed it up over the first 4-5 laps as I got used to the car. Third qualifier the car was the same and I even managed to drive a decent quali. To my surprise I had the fastest lap time by a tenth and was just 1 second behind TQ placing third overall over the 5 minute run, this with still some mistakes. This either means the car was very good, or that the competition was not what it shold be...most likely a combination of both as my driving certainly was not perfect.
Anyway, true to form I messed up the last quali but still somehow made the A final, where in the first 2 my car and driving was good. Third was no good though as I tried a setup change running MR33/Ride springs.
Overall an enjoyable race (after a disaster start) on the best track in Finland which made me look forward to the Worlds in Holland even more.
