TITC 2015 Race report
The 2015 edition of the Thailand International Touring Car Championships was held at RC Addict on the last weekend of February. As always, TITC is one of the most competitive events and most teams arrive a week of two before the event starts for testing. Team Serpent was represented by Viktor Wilck from Sweden and Daryl Thong from Singapore, who were competing in the Modified class and Open Brushless class respectively. After one week of testing, the main challenge was to find a good setup for old tires as it is significantly slower than on new tires, also making tire strategy for the race crucial.
Controlled Practice
Controlled practice began on Thursday where we had one round of free practice in the morning, followed by 2 rounds of controlled practice in the afternoon, where the best overall run will be used for re-seeding for qualifying. Daryl ended the day in 14th and Viktor in 12th.
Qualifying
Qualifying began on Friday, where 5 rounds were to be held for Open Brushless class and 6 rounds for modified, with 3 rounds to count.
Daryl qualified in 6th in Q1, 4th in Q2 and 6th in Q3, ending the day in 7th.
Viktor qualified in 10th in Q1, 4th in Q2 and 6th in Q3, ending the day in 8th.
Saturday saw a re-grouping based on the previous day’s qualifying results, therefore Daryl and Viktor moved up into the fastest group. Daryl had a very strong day of qualifying, taking the TQ in round 4 of qualifying. Q5 saw Daryl battle with Kittipong for the TQ and Second place on the grid, however after making a mistake on the opening lap Daryl finished in 2nd for the round, also clocking the fastest lap of the event of 15.7 in the process.
Viktor who had already secured his place in the final on Friday, qualified 10th in Q4 and 12th in Q5, while on old tires. He would finish the qualifying to grid up in 9th place for the Final.
