Off-Road Spec Motor Updates

Hola folks! This weekend,Davey Batta RC, Levi Raymond, and Chase Raymond got the opportunity to run the full line of HOBBYWING spec racing products. With all three being past National Champions in the spec classes, we were able to gather some great feedback and get some valuable insight from three different driving styles. One of the biggest takeaways from the weekend was 64-pitch gearing in 2WD.

All three drivers preferred the 64-pitch setup over 48-pitch. We used the Revolution Design slipper eliminator paired with AXON spur gears and pinions. After running the two setups back-to-back, here’s what Chase and Davey had to say:

Chase Raymond:
“Going from 48 pitch to 64 pitch gave the car noticeably better drive and torque, making all the triples significantly easier to clear.”

Davey Batta:
“I had significantly more rip to get over the big jumps at Coyote Hobbies with the 64-pitch gears versus the 48-pitch gears. It felt like the car woke up and was even running a bit cooler on temp.” We’ve also included the ESC setup sheets used by everyone, including the throttle curves and Variable PWM Drive Frequency settings.

13.5 4WD
Nothing too crazy changed compared to what we’ve run in the past. The biggest adjustment was gearing down two teeth, going from 75/29 to 75/27. This helped give the cars the extra punch needed for clearing the quad if you wanted to send it, while also making the other two larger jumps on the layout easier to clear consistently.

Cooling Setup
All of these setups were run with a 30mm fan powered directly from the ESC. You can also use the MXLR fan booster if you want another option for powering the fan. For racers in the United States, the MXLR fan booster can be purchased through Team EAM.
