2022 FWD National Championship Report
I was fortunate enough to be involved in the ‘guidance’ of the rules for the series building on the strong foundation of the past for this class. It’s a class that always had huge potential and with lots of hard work we are starting to realise that potential.
From a personal perspective this class is super fun. Its very controllable at the speeds they go and more importantly the grip to power ratio is perfect. There are equal speeds, no temp issues with motors, long tyre life, no battery voltage dropoff, no battery wars like all the issues with open stock racing. It is super cheap and super fun! The bodies also look brilliant, no blobs to be seen anywhere unlike modified TC for example.
I did a lot of pre season running working on a base setup/gear ratio/additive/body/esc setting and this paid dividends for the entire team. I’m pretty sure all the team and customers used my starting setup as a base and along with the build videos at some point of the season.
At all the events I raced at we were absolutely dominant as a team, locking out the top 3 positions in the A final at each of those rounds and having the majority of cars in the A final. We also won many of the other finals and had strong pace throughout the field.
I managed to TQ 3 out of the 4 events I did with 7 out of 8 counting rounds as a TQ and managed to win all 8 counting finals. It really was about as perfect as it could have been. I had some brilliant races with Sam Law at 3 of the rounds and then Ben Moorey pushed me super hard at West London.
I was fortunate enough to also be the referee at the final round of the series (I had ref’d a few finals at previous meetings) as I was not competing in the race. I could not believe how good the quality of racing was in EVERY final! Yes there were a few incidents and unhappy drivers but on a whole it was brilliant to watch.
Thank you to everyone who helped me in some way through the year ranging from my sponsors to friends to new friends made and old friends who returned to race.
Thanks to the following companies who I represent with pride:
