The setup is actually close to the warm-up setup which Shawn and I worked out at APEX Raceway and Hobbies earlier this year.
Only few adjustments were needed, which shows that the preparations before this important race are a big part of the final outcome!
Main differences to the warm-up setup are:
- shorter wheelbase (in rear) --> more reactive and agile car, especially in chicanes
- more front camber --> more steering and front end grip
- less front bump steer shims --> smoother corner entry feeling with more overall steering mid to exit
- more front droop --> increased onpower steering
- narrower track width in rear --> increased corner speed and steering
- stiffer side springs --> keeps more corner speed and doesn't stall as much + more steering in fast switchbacks
IMPORTANT - Front side wall glue with my MXLR Elastic Tire Glue was an important part of the overall setup. It's important to keep the sidewalls soft and flexible to not loose steering!
Please take note again - this setup is for CRC Black Carpet only.
It will likely NOT work on other carpet types, during the special properties of the CRC Carpet (high fibers / car dives into the carpet surface).
Detailed shots of my WC winning machine!
Car is dirty and will stay dirty. It will remain in the state like it was picked up from the track after the last main.
Only thing that's changed is the motor. As the race winning motor was completely dismantled for checking by the race officials, I installed my spare motor which is also marked and was used in practice runs.
