Team Associated RC10B4

Team Associated RC10B4

Team Associated’s B4 is the latest generation of the 5-time IFMAR World Championship-winning heritage of RC10 buggies.

As far back as 1989, there were grainy spy photos and a few sporadic sightings of a radical new buggy under development by Team Associated. Then at the 1991 IFMAR World Offroad Championships in Detroit, the Team unveiled their hand-built prototype cars, noted for their distinctive front suspensions and unusual shock mounting locations. Masami Hirosaka piloted the RC10 buggy to the World Championship win, and the prototypes were whisked back to Team Associated's California R&D department (Area 51) where they would not emerge for over a decade.

Now, Team Associated brings years of development and new technologies together by introducing the RC10B4 buggy . . . the most adjustable, tunable RC10 buggy ever produced.

RC10B4 Team Kit

This all-new buggy reintroduces the forward-swept front end and rear-mounted shock configuration of the original car, optimized with the new co-planar Ackerman steering geometry. This new suspension design provides maximum front-end clearance and minimizes bump-steer while maintaining correct buggy Ackerman angles. Trailing front axle or optional inline steering blocks can be used to adjust steering response.

The B4 chassis provides a super-low center of gravity by lowering the motor, battery, wing and even the shock mounting positions, enabling much higher cornering speeds and stability during jumping and through bumpy sections of the track. The adjustable-angle rear wing mounts and even the transmission case are now integrated into the chassis/suspension structure. The symmetrical suspension arm design has all four arms being the same length, and "captured" hinge pins so that no e-clips are used.

The transmission has also been optimized into an ultra-compact package, and now uses the same 2.6:1 higher torque-capacity differential as the RC10GT. A double-sided slipper assembly (first prototyped by Team Associated in 1989) has been designed with higher torque capacity, easier assembly, and lower rotating mass than comparable double-sided slippers. This provides a finer adjustment range and more efficient slipper operation.

The B4 uses new offset-front wheels and "wide-body" front tires. The rear wheels are now interchangeable with other manufacturer’s buggies, enabling pre-mounted tires for standardized "spec" class racing to easily be used. The B4 is topped off with an all-new, super low-profile body and adjustable rear wing, providing a sleek, aggressive look on the track.

The RC10B4 won Radio Control Car Action Reader's Choice 2004 award for Electric Buggy!

Team Associated RC10B4 - Features

New front and rear wheels. The front wheel has a new offset and uses wide body type tires. They are also stiffer. The new rear wheel is now interchangeable with other manufacturer’s buggies, allowing spec tires to be mounted.

Inline or trailing front axles. You can use either inline or trailing front axle steering blocks while maintaining correct axle and Ackerman positions.

Most adjustable RC10 ever. You have easy access to all suspension settings. The upper suspension arms have vertical ballstuds front and rear so that you can make fine roll center and camber rise changes.

B4 Transmission

New 2.6:1 reduction transmission. The B4 uses the same higher torque capacity differential as in the RC10GT. Entire transmission assembly has been optimized into an ultra-compact package and is now an integral part of the chassis/suspension structure.

RC10B4 Slipper

Double-sided slipper clutch assembly. Higher torque capacity double-sided slipper assembly. This provides a finer adjustment range and more efficient slipper operation.

RC10B4 low CG

Super-low center of gravity. The motor, battery, body, wing, and even shocks have much lower mounting positions. This gives the B4 buggy a much lower CG for higher cornering speeds and more stability for jumping and the bumpy sections.

RC10B4 longer CVDs

Longer MIP CVD axles. Longer CVD dog bones and axles have been designed into the rear suspension to push the B4 out to maximum legal width. The longer CVDs also increase rear traction. The RTR substitutes rugged steel dogbones.

RC10B4 front end

Optimized front suspension/steering assembly. We designed the new "forward swept" front suspension in conjunction with the "co-planer" Ackerman steering geometry. This new suspension design provides maximum front end clearance and minimum bump-steer while maintaining correct buggy Ackerman settings.

RC10B4 symmetrical suspension

Symmetrical suspension arm design with captured hinge pins. All four suspension arms are the same length. All of the suspension hinge pins are captured so that no E-clips are needed.

RC10B4 wing mounts

Impact-absorbing wing mounts. The rear wing has two impact-absorbing mounts that also support the rear suspension assembly. The wing angle is adjustable.

Team Associated RC10B3

RC10B3 Buggy

The 1:10 scale, electric-powered RC10 buggy has proven itself to be the car to beat for the last 15 years. It won the first ever IFMAR 1:10 Off Road World Championship title in 1984-85, as well as four of the five IFMAR 1:10 Off Road World Championships it competed in.

The Associated Transmission’s contribution to the success of the RC10 is shown by the fact that three of the four IFMAR 1:10 Off Road World Championship titles, held by the RC10, have been won using the Associated Transmission.

The RC10 during its eleven years was updated through various models and has compiled the most successful win record in our hobby.

The B2, the second generation RC10, won the 1995 IFMAR 1:10 World Championships held at Yatabe Arena in Japan, giving us our fifth Worlds title. It took five out of ten places in the A-main.

The new B3 adds to its arsenal a new Quadra-symmetric suspension for exceptionally well-balanced, stable chassis for even better handling on rough tracks. The Associated tranny’s completely redesigned, larger-diameter slipper clutch handles higher torque demands more efficiently.

The B3 continued the Associated winning streak by TQ'ing two IFMAR Worlds back-to-back and winning the 1999 Worlds in Finland!
