- 3 Racing Sakura FGX - Kody Knudtson - ROAR Carpet National - 18.03.2012 -
As many of you know, Kody ran my MD-FGX at the ROAR Carpet Nationals last weekend. He ran the same car I did all of the development on over the last few months. The setup he ran at Nationals is pretty close to how I had the car setup for the Emerald City Classic the week before. Yesterday, He drove down from Seattle to Timezone and delivered my car. The pictures below were taken last night at the track and are exactly how he ran the car at Nats (except for my receiver). Kody has had many requests for his setup so here it is.
Kody Knudtson's 2012 ROAR Nats MD-FGX Setup:
Chassis: 3Racing FGX with Mckune MD-FGX Carbon Coversion
Body: 3Racing FGX Formula one Body
Rear Suspension:
Shocks: 1 Hole 90 weight Losi
Springs: CRC Black (Cut down tubes to allow long springs)
Swaybar: #5 Stiffest
Upper Arms: Carbon Fiber Mckune Upper arms
Lower Arms: Stock
Ride Height: 4.5mm
Droop: 1mm
Camber: -1 degree both sides
Hexes: 4mm Integy
Rear Tires: Shimizu Soft Ribs on HPI silver wheels, full sauce
Notes: 2mm Spacer under Damper arm and 1.5mm spacer under damper arm ball stud. See pic below.
Front Suspension:
Lower Arm: Stock reinforced with glued on carbon fiber strips
Upper Arms: Traxxas 4724X Rod ends on inside. Du-Bro 2321 Heavy Duty Ball Links on outside. 3Racing titanium 38mm and 35mm turnbuckles.
Steering Blocks: Tamiya F104 50395 Uprights with custom Carbon Fiber extension.
King Pins: Tamiya F104 54160
Springs: CRC .55
Camber: -1 each Side
Caster: 8 degrees
Tires: F104 soft slicks on Ride F104 silver wheels, inside half sauce.
Ride Height: 4.5mm
Steering Linkage: Stock with 1mm spacer to extend it forward
Notes: Space down steering linkage until level at rest to avoid bump steer.
Everything Else:
Battery: Revtech Shorty 65C
Motor: Revtech 21.5 1 line of timing past middle
Gearing: 31 pinion/35 spur
ESC: Black Diamond Version 2 with 50% drag brake
Servo: Savox 1251
Notes:
Battery forward with ESC inline. A very stiff rear end and a ton of front caster (Between 8 and 10 degrees) with the soft slicks is critical for this setup. This results in a car with tons of on power steering. This also eliminates the front chatter on high speed sweepers and off power steering or hard breaking and steering.
