The TRF component
systems of Tamiya are in 1:10 - electrical smooth course route
car classes already for years very successfully. After the TRF
414 Tech Racing developed the TRF 415, which is world-wide in
almost all running series very successful together with the
Tamiya Racing Factory. On 30 October 2004 Marc Rhine pool of
broadcasting corporations in Kissimee/Florida with the first
evolution stage of the TRF 415, that became 415 ms at first
attempt world champion. A worthy cause to regard and test on
heart and kidneys the chassis once in the detail.
The
component system
The 60 times 30
centimeters large box is printed on with a body in the Marc
Rheinhard Design and a picture of the broadly grinsenden Marc
Rhine hard. Besides one finds still the reference the fact that
it concerns the world champion chassis here and only into
limited edition is to be had this. Contents of the box present
themselves, as with competition models usual, as pure kit. In a
stout filled bag smaller bags are after building groups sort all
small articles contained. Among them the chassis and the
building guidance are in the used Tamiya format. To mention it
is that neither electronics, still another a body or tire are
attached to the component system.
The
chassis
The structure of the TRF
415 ms does not bring much new. An extraordinarily torsionally
stiff carbon double cover construction with 2.5 millimeters
strong chassis and two millimeters a strong upper deck form the
basis. One finds the reaming for the Akkupack on the right side.
Engine, servo, automatic controllers and receivers are arranged
on the left side. Are in front and in the back wishbones
graphite-strengthened down, with which at the front two and at
the rear side three points for the shock absorbers are bored in
each case. By simply turning of the wishbones one can select
thus between five different points. Into the wishbones
three-millimeter grubscrews are screwed in, with which the
suspension rebound movement can be limited. As upper wishbones
are used right left-hand thread seaweeds with ball cups. Over
these the fall can be adjusted later. For the rear axle wheel
carriers with a degree of toe-in are attached to the component
system. These are bolted by means of three-millimeter metal pin
with set thread mobile with the wishbones. For the adjustment of
the height of the roll center at the rear axle the
chassiseitigen fastening spots of the upper tie rods can be
adapted by supporting shims under the fastening spot on the
aluminum Bulkheads to the respective distances and grasp
characteristic.
At the front axle one continues to trust in the proven
C-stroke-system. This C-stroke are attached to the component
system in the wake variants two degrees and four degrees. First
the branch wheel carriers were blocked. Of course be adjusted
with the TRF also the toe-in at the rear axle can 415 ms. For
this purpose differently broad hanging up attachments for the
lower wishbones are attached to the component system. Thus
toe-in toe-out of zero can be adjusted degree up to two degrees.
Since the wishbones are narrower about five millimeters than the
distances between their photographs, spacers must be pushed onto
the axes of rotation. By the arrangement of the cases before or
behind the wishbones, the wheel base can be extended and/or
shortened by in each case six millimeters with 415 ms.
Particularly to mention also the Tamiya absorbers, which do not
represent anything unusual after the usual concept with aluminum
housing, absorber piston with two holes and O-ring piston rod
sealing, are however in function not to strike tightness and
effect way are. The absorbers rest by means of lower ball
photographs directly on the wishbones, whereby they hold on
above to carbon absorber bridges with in front four and in the
back five points. Helpfully with the tuning of the vehicle are
also the front and rear stabilizers, which are attached to the
component system in in each case three different hardnesses.
Also the propulsion principle is a proof of worth: The engine
propels the medium wave over a 64-dp-Feinverzahnung, over which
with two belts the rear Differential and the front free-wheel
are then moved. From here drive shafts from aluminum at the
wheels provide for movement. The ms is equipped contrary to its
predecessor thereby with the white light run belts, which
continue to improve the anyway already low-friction drive still.
The fact that all mobile parts are completely running in ball
bearings does not have to be mentioned with a competition model
probably more separately.
Attention exciting presents itself also the steering element.
With altogether six ball bearings it is unbelievably
low-friction and precise. Over tie rods with right left-hand
thread the toe-in can be adjusted. In excellent
Fertigungsqualität one finds also the blue anodized aluminum
parts. The new Motorträger is attached to the ms now also in
series, which provides for a better cooling of gestressten
engines.
Assembly
Over the quality of the
building guidance still further praising words do not have to be
lost. The description of the sections is excellent, so that the
assembly is to be created also for an untrained model
construction amateur in to two evenings. Praising to mention is
here also the quality of the parts. There is not necessary up to
removing the usual injection moulding remainders at the plastic
parts and rounding the sharp Cjhassiskanten off by means of
Dremel and Schlüsselfeilen reworks. One should dedicate however
little time to sharpening and following sealing of the chassis
and all other carbon parts with second adhesive. The edges of
the milled parts are naturally quite sharp edged. Apart from the
danger of injury one reduces also the risk that the carbon
layers separate with more intensive enemy contact from each
other and the expensive parts are destroyed in such a way. The
reaming for the Akkus should be chamfered from above with a file
so far, which the Akkus at the lower surface locks concisely
with the chassis. This provides on the one hand for a better
seat of the cells and lowers on the other hand the vehicle
emphasis. The register accuracy of all parts is excellent, so
that for example the wishbones move extremely low-friction and
free from play in their carriers.
The TRF was completely installed after a long evening. After the
remote control was inserted, it applied to apply now still
another according to rank lacquer finish on the
Protoform-Mazda-6-Karosserie, before it could go to the first
test.
TRACK test
Equipped with the short Futaba-9550-Servo, a Hara
Twister2-Regler, a Peak-Vantage-12x2-Surikarn-Edition-Motor, a
Peak-PowerFlo-SP2-Akku and Sorex-28-Reifen was then to the first
Rollout on the Trainigsstrecke of the SLR Ingolstadt. As Setup
first zero degree and in the back a degree toe-in were selected
in front, the fall was stopped to in front one degree and in the
back two degrees. The absorbers received a filling with
60-WT-Orion-Öl. The choice of the feathers/springs fell in
front on the white, in the back on the blue Tuning
feathers/springs of Tamiya. As points of hanging up for the
absorbers the position came from the building guidance to
carrying. In addition at the front axle the yellow and thus
centralhard stabilizer was used, in the back first without it
did.
The first rounds applied to give over on it gas for the first
time correctly to adjusting straight line discharge and guidance
excursion. The 415 ms had with the selected Setup very much „a
loose “tail. Thus again into the box. At the rear axle two
degrees of toe-in were stopped, which installed absorbers of the
front axle a position flatter fastened. With this attitude then
better round times could be driven as with „old “415er at
first attempt. The vehicle could be steered with unbelievable
precision around the course. The handling is neutral and at any
time controllable. In the further process still some changes in
the chassis were made. „The world champion “let each change
feel, without reacting thereby exaggerated.
Next a test stood on the permanent resounding distance in tubing
brook on the program.
The distance consists of Nadelfilz and distance delimitations of
wood. There the layout of the course for a 1:10 - gate car is
too closely held, needs the 415 ms much steering element.
Therefore the absorbers got again a steeper angle and the front
Stabi moved into the spare part crate. The car could be steered
despite the self-willed routing with breath-robbing precision
around the course. A small inspection after the tests did not
point any damages at the vehicle to my astonishment. A complete
disassembly of the chassis after the intensive tests should
show, how it stands around the wear of the TRF 415 ms. However
no excessive manifestations of wear could be determined. Only
the Differenzial and the absorbers should be examined regularly.
Really world masterfully?
The policy of the company Tamiya stands out
in the frequency, in which new models are brought on the market,
clearly against the competition. With the model designation TRF
415 ms one expects first „only “an evolution stage of the
TRF 415. With the exact Hinsehen one recognizes however a
completely new wheel suspension, which was taken over as far as
possible by the Tamiya TB Evo 4. Also the propulsion principle
was consistently developed further with the new, white light run
belts. The target group of the TRF 415 ms is reliably the
ambitionierte competition driver. Countless successes and above
all the world champion title prove this. By an excellent
Baukastensetup and the easy, uncritical controllableness of the
vehicle is the kit however also for competition A RISERs and
hobby driver a genuine alternative. Only the quite high price
deters during the purchase decision.
