- Tamiya TRF201XR - Brad Krans - Build -

Here is just a little teaser.  I wll give a full in depth build report below.
TRF has thought of a lot with this new conversion.  It allows for numerous configurations and added tuning.  Fit and finish is nothing less than amazing, as always.  This is going to be a highly competitive car.

The long awaited longer chassis kit is available, TRF201 XR (part# 42253) Lower Deck Set.  This is a conversion kit for the TRF201 and DN-01 platforms.  Tamiya America will carry all replacement parts when they become available.

Included in the kit are the parts below:

This conversion allows numerous battery configuration using different mounting options including saddle, "shorty" and standard long Lipo 2 cell batteries.  The kit also includes various mounting locations of the batteries to aid in weight placement.

More of the build is getting underway:

I finished the build with no problems.  As for the setup, I basically transfered the last setup from my regular 201.  I do have the AE B4.2 front steering knuckle installed so I can run the hex front wheels.  I reamed the TRF caster block's vertical hingepin to the AE size and shortened an AE hinge pin.  This eliminated all the slop compared to using the TRF hinge pin.

I'm going to test different slippers also.  I know with modifications to our gear cover the new AE VTS slipper.  I have noticed in modified that the slipper really takes a beating and requires attention after almost every run.

The shorty battery configuration is what I am going to start with.  I mounted the ESC on the battery strap (which is a kit recommendation) with the receiver on the right side.  I left the area behind the battery empty bacause of the ROAR rule that requires a long battery to fit.

A few of the upgraded parts that were used are as follows:
#54487 - Reinforced B Parts - (Motor Cover)
#54291 - Alum Rr Sus Mount XA
#54276 - Aluminum Motor Plate
#54265 - Reinforced F Parts - TRF201 Front Suspension Arms

#54505 - Buggy Big Bore Damper Rear - Aeration Type 2pcs

I'm going to race tomorrow at Competition Hobbies in Tucson.  Favorite tires there are Pro-line Suburb M4 rears and front M3 Suburbs or Scrubs depending on how much steering is needed.  PL closed cell foam is used all around.  I'll write another blog this weekend with more information and post a starting setup sheet after a few test sessions this week.

Thanks for reading, I hope it was a little bit of help.  Have fun racing!!!
