Billy is running a proto-type version based on the Spyder SRX2 MM car. This version is standard with a 4 gear laydown gearbox, has a carbon chassis, composite sideguards. The front end is standard. In the last few runs Billy tried the 3 gear laydown gearbox which worked even a little better on this super high traction astro track. Low ride height is used around 18mm only. Billy, apart from one testrun, never raced the SRX2 on astro before, so its a steep learning curve. There are only 6 runs to get ready for qualifying which is not a lot. Still Billy made some low 18 sec laps, so he is getting there. Now work on consistency and laptime.

Front tyres are lasting many runs, but are hard to glue correctly onto the rims. The rears are a different story. Some drivers use them a few runs, with the outer pins cut of. Some prefer new ones every run, with spikes remaining sharp. Traction roll being a big issue, cutting the outer spokes is necessary.

Remarks – Serpent Offroad head designer Billy Easton is running a prototype version of their upcoming 2WD buggy called the SRX-2 MH. The car features a low profile transmission, although a standard transmission version of the car will also be made available. Both the low profile and standard transmissions will be produced in 3 and 4 gears versions, the choice on which will come standard in the kit is still to be decided. Up front the kick-up plate has machined from aluminium, while the chassis on Billy’s car here in Japan is carbon but as it is still a pre production car it may still come with an aluminium chassis in the kit. Finally the car will be supplied with two different pairs of side guards to allow for different LiPo orientation.
