Jesper Rasmussen wins 4WD Danish Championship with Schumacher K1.

This years DRCMU Off Road series with 7 races was coming to an end, being rounded up with a ‘Grand Finale” at the challenging Astro Turf track at Odense RC Minirace. The DRCMU series has this year seen the most competitive field for many years. A couple of experienced drivers, previous champions and some of the best touring car drivers have joined or re joined the Off Road scene giving the “regular” drivers serious competition. Before the race Jesper was one point behind his rival Frederik Hovgaard, as well as two other drivers also were within reach of the championship. This required a winn to Jesper to ensure this years title and Championship.

Leading up to the race Jesper had prepared his K1 very well for the track including testing a lot of options but only in dry conditions. “Murphy” ensured that the nice warm weather changed 180 dgr. on Friday before the race and a more typical Danish late summer weather type took over for the weekend. Changing between showers and sun resulted in track conditions changed from wet to dry and back nearly every round of qualifying and finals. The right tire choice became an even more important factor. As a result of this, two sets of Schumacher big bores dampers with different oil weights and Schumacher Yellow mini pins and the BB mini spikes was ready on the pit table for last minute installation, depending on the track conditions.

Qualifying went well and Jesper did a very good job setting the fastest time in 4 out 5 round TQ and getting a much needed extra point for the pole position, a step closer to another Danish Championship for his record, but the finals was not driven yet and anything could happen.

Sunday was final day and the weather was nice and the warm up practice round went well in dry conditions, shortly before start of the first finals rain was back and the entire round was on wet track. Jesper managed to secure a win his Amain round 1. The second round started out in wet conditions for the Stock class drivers, but the track dried up shortly before the 2nd 4WD A-final. There was not time to change dampers/springs, but the Mini pins was back on the K1 and Jesper took the lead out of the first corner. Tracktion was now high and dampers soft so the car rolled a lot turning, almost like an old Cadillac 60´ car. Jesper managed to keep 4 wheels on the ground in most corners and made some impressive lap times and drove his K1 to victory and by that winning the Danish Championship.

Jesper and his reliable Schumacher CAT K1 winning at Odense was his fourth win in the DRCMU series this year, and the second year in a row that he wins the Danish Championship in 4WD with Schumacher. Adding to his success Jesper came in fourth behind 3 of Swedens best drivers in 4WD class at the Nordic Championship in Höör in Sweden earlier this summer. So the youngster seems to be warmed up for the next challenge in a couple of weeks.

Jesper will join the Schumacher factory team at the world champions in Chico, California.
