We headed down to Maritime raceway for round one of there winter off road series with our freshly built RB6. First a quick note on the kit, this went together really nicely a quality product, no drama. Also we were using for the first time the new reds racing ESC and motors, these look amazing really nice quality.

Having not raced 1/10 scale for about a year we atteneded the Saturday practice before race day, on the Sunday, its a popular day with a large majority of the racers taking advantage of learning the new layout ready for the Sunday. As normal the club did a fanstastic job of building a great track with a mixed surface of carpet, wood, slippy sections and jumps.

We built the car with just one modification to start with which was to switch the shorty lipo across the width of the car by modifying the side guards.

The car was great straight out of the box, balanced, good steering and jumped and landed nice., the reds electrics were also proving to be really nice, great feeling and power.

We spent the day making a few tweaks using some stiffer front springs, and added the bulkhead weight, plus Mick built us up the 3 gear gearbox conversion, all of the changes allowed us to get faster with the car and everything was feeling good and feeling confident for the Sunday.

So on to the sunday, the format for the day was 1 round of practice and 4 rounds of qualifying and 1 final, Round by round scoring.

The race is well attended with around 100 entries, in 2wd there was a strong field of drivers with the likes of Ellis Stafford, and a number of local fast guys like Billy Fletcher, Richard Gasson and the much improved Taro Craddock. Practice went well.

Q1 – I was starting off 3rd, with Billy and Ellis ahead, I knew I just needed to have a nice tidy run and try and get myself a better starting position for q2, the run went really well, little mistakes from the front two meant I could get through and go on to Tq round 1 by 7 seconds.

Q2 – This was a perfect run, starting off at the front and just putting in fast consistent laps, I had no back marker issues everything went perfect, this allowed me to put a really fast run in and tq rd2, by 17 seconds.

Q3 – This run was going ok until I had a coming together with a back marker, its one of those things on a indoor track, I then pushed on a made a small mistake of my own, I still got a solid 3rd in round.

Q4 – Again a nice run, got caught up a little through traffic but kept those fast laps going, and managed to take TQ.

The car had been amazing and was dialed, it was easy to drive and fast, so I was really happy and super confident going in to the final.

On to the A final, I was starting pole, with Ellis and Billy 2nd and 3rd, I knew both would be pushing me hard in those first few laps, I got away nice and clean over the centre jump section, and kept my line nice and clean and tight for the first couple of laps, myself and Ellis had pulled a bit of a gap on the rest of the chasing pack and it was super close racing, I ran a bit wide off the centre jump section which allowed Ellis to tuck in side of me, I chased him hard and got the position back just at the start of the straight, we continued to do battle for 2 or 3 mins, exchanging places, in the end I managed to get myself back in the lead and a couple of second gap as we crossed the line, great race and a great weekend.

Big thanks to Mick for the help and support, and all our sponsors, plus the maritime crew, its been a great debut.
