- Kyosho Ultima RB5 - Collins Cocores - Socal Raceway - R/C Car Review June 2007 -

Track condition: hard packed, high traction

The out of the box setup actually works pretty good, and makes the car extremely easy to get around the track, almost too easy. I found that a slightly more aggressive setup helps that car get around the track faster while also keeping it easy to drive. Listed below are the areas that I made changes to:

Front:

Upper shock location: 1
Lower shock location: 2
Caster: 30°
Ride height: Arms level
Tires: Proline 4 Rib 8175-02

Notes: added 1/4 Oz of weight on front kick-up plate

Rear:

Outer camber link location: 1
Rear Hub Placement: middle
Wheelbase: short
Battery placement: front
Tires: Proline Hole Shot 8184-02

Servo: KO PDS 2366

"..., I was determited to get the RB5 to steer. To get help get that steering, and to also help the buggy to go through the rough stuff even better, I went with a overall softer setup all the way around by moving the shock all the way in on the front and rear of the car."

"... I was still not satisfied with the amount of understeering the car had when entering the turns. This time I went for a more aggressive tweak, and rotated the kick-up plate from the 30-degree position to 25 side. I also went in and shortened the camber link, by using the innermost location on the rear block. This time out, I got the steering I was looking for!"

"... I want to see what more the car can offer. And after a chatting with some of the Kyosho reps, I moved the rear hubs all the way forward, raised the rear hub all the way up, and removed the shim under the ball stud from the hub. This time not only I have steering, but I also had much more rear traction, and I felt at ease while driving."
