- Durango DEV410V3 - Nathan Waters - Worksop - Schumacher Indoor Series - 27.11.2011 -
My DEX410 V3 had been very strong in the previous two rounds of the series at Worksop but after a poor result in round two I was determined to make up for lost ground going into round three. In practice the car felt very good on what was a very different layout to the previous rounds, proving the diversity of the DEX410V3.
Round 1:
Qualifying started well working my way from the back of the grid up into third place by the 4 minute mark only for an electrical glitch to put paid to any hopes of an early banker!
Round 2:
Another charge from the back of the grid to claim third in round. The car was obviously very good but I was losing some time in the fast chicanes which were a big feature of the track and one of the only places to make up any time.
Round 3:
After a small change to the wheelbase and front camber link to try and carry more speed through the fast chicanes I headed into round three needing a good result to cement a good place on the grid for the final. The car was very fast and after some scrappy early laps allowing the leader to escape I was soon setting some fast lap times on my way to second in round.
Round 4:
No setup changes for this round and the combination of an excellent car and a clean run put me first in round with the fastest time of the day. Unfortunately Simon Moss had already taken TQ by virtue of three firsts in the first three rounds of qualifying but the performance of the car in this last round had left me quietly confident for the final.
Final:
After a disappointing early mistake had left me finishing in the middle of the field in 2wd I was determined to make up for it in the last race of the day. From the early laps it was obvious that I had more pace than Simon and I was soon looking for a way passed as we edged away from the rest of the field. The tight and twisty nature of the track though made overtaking very difficult and despite pulling along side several times I was struggling to make a clean pass. The car was so good that even with a missed apex or slightly misjudged jump I could easily close in and be right on his tail within a lap. Eventually after four minutes of pressure Simon made a mistake and I was through to cruise to victory with a two second gap behind.

Series so far:
Nearly halfway through the UK’s premier indoor off road series and Team Durango’s 2WD and 4WD cars are performing very well.
In the 4wd class, the DEX410v3 has kept up the previous pace, and at least three DEX410v3’s have made the top ten at each round, with one car making the podium at every round so far. Nathan Waters taking a Win and a 2nd place in rounds 1 and 3, whilst Adam Skelding took a 3rd place in round 2.
The 2wd car hit the ground running from the start after a short outdoor season. With little set-up time, the DEX210 in mid motor configuration was on the pace from round 1 with all 3 cars at the event making the top ten. After its release soon after Round 1 the car has improved quickly as the team worked to find a good base set-up which could be used to fine-tune the car. With 4 cars making the top ten in round 2 and a host of cars just outside the top ten, the DEX210’s pace started to quicken. Round 3 provided a well deserved podium for Craig Collinson and his DEX210 – again four DEX210’s making the top ten showed the quickening pace of the car.
After 3 rounds of the series Team Durango drivers hold strong positions in the series top ten in each class. Four in 4wd and five in 2wd. With 4 rounds to go, everything is still to play for – bad rounds to drop and good ones to work for. We’ll keep you posted on the team’s progress.
