What is the definition of domination? Right now, it's Ryan Cavalieri and his Team Associated SC5M. Since its introduction in the summer of 2015 Ryan has not lost a race. With his 2016 ROAR National Championship, Cavalieri claimed his third National Championship in a row and claimed his fourth in the 2WD Modified Short Course class -- more wins in this class than anyone else. As a matter of fact, Team Associated remains undefeated in 2WD Modified Short Course National Championships. Dive in as we take a closer look at Ryan's SC5M and the details under the hood.

Inside Front End
The keen eye will spot the silver coloring of the #71009 Front Arms (hard) along with the #91722B6 Ballcups. The ballcups have proven to be smoother and more durable than the kit ballcups and work great with the Factory Team titanium ballstuds. To improve consistency, Ryan carefully glues the 4mm trailing axle inserts into the spindle to make the steering resolution more precise. Ryan also uses the optional #91637 12mm Shock Springs, 54mm, gray, 4.45 lb/in to support the added weight of a short course truck. To set things off, Ryan custom colors his #1408 FT Titanium Turnbuckle, 67 mm/2.65 in gold for some added bling.

Aerial View
Here at left you get a great view of the very clean wiring setup and specific places for additional weight. Peeking out from underneath the battery is the #27304 Reedy LiPo Battery Weight Set to add weight right in the center of the chassis, yet keep it as low as possible. Ryan has also chosen to run his transponder all the way to the front of the chassis for every advantage in those photo finishes. Another small detail is the orientation of his ESC switch. By having it 90° from the direction of travel, it's less likely to turn off during a hard impact.

Outside Rear End
Again, Ryan has chosen to use many of the hard parts to stiffen up the flex of the truck, including the #71007 Rear Tower (hard), #71005 Front Tower (hard), T5M, and #71011 Rear Arms (hard) and Shims. Ryan has also fine-tuned the weight bias using the #91523 FT Brass Arm Mount (C). Ryan tuned his suspension using the #91640 12mm Shock Springs, 72mm, white, 2.40 lb/in.

Inside Rear End
Ryan has chosen to utilize the #91607 B5M Gearbox, 3 gear to reorient the motor direction to provide less chassis roll for his SC5M. Behind the #91602 FT Front Motor Plate, black, 3 gear is the #91175 FT VTS Slipper Conversion. This helps control the power delivery, which is key in modified short course racing. If you look closely at Ryan's shock collars, you can see that he's notched them so it's easy to tell how much of an adjustment is made to the ride height. With ride height being such a sensitive adjustment, precision is key.

Body, Wing, and Tires
The JConcept Illuzion Hi-Flow body is THE BODY to use on the SC5M. With its race-proven design and large rear vents, the body allows for the best jumping and handling while maintaining a realistic look. Additionally, the JConcepts Hazard +3mm front and rear wheels support the AKA™ Clay Typo tires that Ryan has used during this dominant streak of racing.

Event Name: ROAR 1:10 Electric Off-Road Nationals
Event Location: HobbyTown HobbyPlex, Omaha, NE
Event Date(s): August 12, 2016 to August 14, 2016

The 2016 R.O.A.R. 1:10 Electric Off-Road National championship took place over the weekend of August 14th in Omaha, Nebraska and was hosted by the famous Hobbytown Hobbyplex facility. The track crew outdid themselves with a challenging layout that incorporated many features found in a great race track: a triple, a chicane, a step-up, rollers and doubles. As qualifying got underway on Friday, the racing started to heat up.

From the first race, it was clear that the level of competition was high in all the classes. Just a single bobble could drop a driver 10 positions in the round rankings. In the 2WD Modified Short Course category, Team Associated's Ryan Cavalieri and his SC5M showed why Team Associated has dominated this category of racing since its inception in 2009. Cavalieri set the fastest time in all four rounds of qualifying, which guaranteed the top qualifying position for Sunday's main event. Joining him on pole position with Team Associated vehicles were Kyle Layton in 2WD 17.5 Buggy and 2WD 17.5 Short Course with his B6D and SC5M, Michael Meister in 2WD 17.5 Racing Truck with his T5M and Aidan Olson in 15 and Under 2WD Buggy with his B5M.

The main events were pretty straightforward for many of the top qualifiers including Cavalieri, who easily won A1 and A2 to win his third consecutive 2WD Modified Short Course National Championship. Others went down to three main events with Team Associated drivers coming out on top of all the classes they top qualified. Layton was able to take the win in 2WD 17.5 Buggy, while teammate Shane Borden took the win in 2WD 17.5 Short Course with Meister and Olson both taking all three mains to earn their titles.

Congratulations to all of the National Champions and special thanks to Hobbytown Hobbyplex's crew and R.O.A.R. for putting on a well-run and exciting event.
