Kerswell & Jefferies Win at BRCA 1/12 Nationals R2

Round 2 of the 2013/14 BRCA 1/12 nationals took place in Stocksbridge near Sheffield last weekend. The venue has been resurrected by David Underwood and with the purchase of some brand new carpet and track markings it is hoped that it will become a popular club for drivers in the local area.

On Saturday in the LMP12 10.5 stock class, Olly Jefferies took a comfortable tq driving his Reedy and LRP powered Associated. He was barely challenged in qualifying and looked to be well on top of his car setup and driving. Chris Kerswell qualified alongside Olly for Serpent/Hobbywing, with Mark Stiles completing the top-3 for Yokomo/Reedy/LRP. In the A final Olly got away cleanly and began to stretch his legs at the front. Mark managed to pass Chris for 2nd in the early stages, but a mistake then dropped him down to 4th place behind Adam Catchpole’s Corally. Shortly afterwards an uncharacteristic mistake and resulting crash put Olly out of contention, gifting the lead to Chris who drove a clean race to take the win. Adam and Mark fought for 2nd place, with Adam eventually coming out on top. In the LMP12 13.5 class Keith Robertson took an easy tq and win for Associated/Reedy ahead of Andy Sawyer’s LRP powered Corally. GT12 was won by David Hall driving a Schumacher, following the demise of pole-sitter Sam Clifton.

Sunday would see faster motors and an even more dominant performance from Olly Jefferies in qualifying. Olly was the class of the field all day and despite breaking down with 2 laps remaining in the penultimate qualifier, he set the fastest time in the final run to line up on pole for the A-final. David Spashett qualified 2nd with the Zen-Racing RS chassis he designed himself, with Chris Kerswell and Mark Stiles completing the front two rows of the grid. There were no mistakes for Olly in the A-final this time and he led the race from start to finish. Mark Stiles finished 2nd following a solid drive but was over 3 seconds adrift of Olly at the end, with David Spashett holding onto third following a scrappy race for the reigning British Champion. The LMP12 Sport class was again dominated by Keith Robertson. He beat Jim Spencer in the A final to cap off a good weekend. GT12 was won by Schumacher’s Sam Clifton; he managed to keep it all together after taking top spot in qualifying.

The next round of the series will be at Tamworth in just 3 weeks time. The event is already over-subscribed in several classes, but there are a number of places available in Sunday’s LMP12 classes. Results and other info relating to the series can be found on the BRCA website
