This year for the Canadian Nats, I ran a 1UP Racing guest car in Can-Am TC Stock. I built the Yokomo BD9 before the event and got in some testing to get a base for the carpet. I found the build top shelf and the initial performance quite impressive. The front end feels strong and the car stays on the nose deep into the corner. Rear stability is easy to dial in with pin width, but not really a major factor in lower powered classes. The car is essentially stock with tuning options (springs, bars, weights, etc.) with only T-Works aluminum diff outdrives as aftermarket on the car.

Body of choice on the car is the Protoform Speed 6. With the release of the new Spec6, I ran that in the X-lite version (please excuse the lights, there was a small mixup on the production Spec6 stickers…).

The key in carpet racing is low CG, and a ULCG battery has become essential. I also turned the ESC around to put the wires under the top deck and can then rotate the motor connectors lower too without stressing the wires.

The programmable servo settings ended up quite different for me from my usual Awesomatix settings. I’ve included those for reference too.

Overall I was really pleased with the car, reliability and its speed. I was able to make the A main and race my way to 8th overall.

The added bonus of the weekend was getting to work with Randy Caster as we explored different ways to gain more and more speed, ultimately with us both in our respective A mains.
Cheers Randy!
