Søren Boy Holst and T.O.P. wins the Danish TC Championships

4th and final round of the Danish National Championships, under the official motorsports federation DASU, where held 11/8-2013 at the former Euros track in Glostrup, just outside the capital Copenhagen. The weather forecast showed dry conditions this time, but outside it didn’t look that promising though. – The practice day before the race was a mix between moist and dry track conditions, so it was difficult to believe the weather guys.

In the SuperStock class there were several good drivers who could fight for the win, but 2 guys were faster than the rest of the field, that was Søren Boy Holst and Mike Gosvig. The raceday started with sun, but some moist on the track after rain during the night and the day before. In the first round the battle was close between Søren and Mike, but after 9 laps Sørens car stopped and he had to retire to save the precius rubber on the control tires. Mike relaxed a bit to spare the tires and won the round ahead of Lars Holm and Christian Lehm.

For the second round of qualifying Søren knew that his Sorex tires were a little bit better than the rest. Keeping 100% focus and making no mistakes at all, he could take the round with a 1 second win ahead of Mike and Christian.

For the third and last qualifying round Søren decides to use the last 2 control tires at the rear, together with some minor setup changes to his T.O.P. Photon EX, to gain more steering. The car was dialed and Søren was able to drive just as fast as in the previous heat. Mike was pushing to keep up the pace, but halfway through the 7 minute heat, he gave up, and stopped to spare some rubber for the finals. Christian and Lars got the same idea, but they forgot about Steffan Finnich in the next heat, who could then take the third place overall, due to a second and fourth place overall in the qualification rounds.

With the round by round system that gave the following qualification top 5:
1. Søren Boy Holst T.O.P. Photon EX
2. Mike Gosvig Awesomatix
3. Steffan Finnich Xray
4. Christian Lehm T.O.P. Photon
5. Lars Holm Awesomatix

The weather didn’t change, but the skies looked pretty cloudy once in a while, so everyone was excited if the finals could be held on a dry track for this event. For the first round of finals both Søren and Mike left the grid with spinning tires. Søren reacted instantly and slowed down the revs, giving him a 5 meter lead on the first lap. He knew that Mike would be fast on the first 10 laps, but the comfortable lead wasn’t lost, and after the 10 laps Mike started to loose speed, giving Søren a bigger lead. Mike had to push a lot, which caused him to make a mistake in the infield of the track. After that Sørens lap times were 0,3 sec slower pr. lap, as he then started to be gentle on the rubber tires. Stefan Finnich who gained the third place on the grid, had a technical problem just before the start, and had to retire. Mike finished on 2nd place, followed by Christian and Lars.

The start of the second A final was better, but already on the first lap, Mike couldn’t resist to touch the rear end of Sørens car. On the 2nd lap he did it again, this time so hard that Sørens car was facing the opposite direction. He had to let the other cars pass, while Mike had to wait, but after turning the car around, Søren was too excited and touch another car, and off course he had to wait and respect this car to get back in the line. Meanwhile Christian and Caspar Morgen took the front, with Mike and Søren chasing through the field. Mike took the lead, while Søren pushed like crazy and fought his way up from 8th position, to end the race on 2nd place, just 1 second after Mike.

The battle was up till the last final. Søren and Mike had a 1st and 2nd, and Christian had 2 3rd places. The skies were black, and the temperature dropped. And to make everything more exciting, the lap counter broke down just before the start, so everyone had to wait in the drivers stand. The nerves were hanging outside the clothes, and everyone could feel the tension. Once again a clean start, with all 8 drivers following each others tail closely, but on third lap Mike hit the rear end of Sørens car, and pushed the body to get stucked under the wheel. Mike had a Stop and Go, and was released just behind Søren. This manouvre costed the 2 front runners 6 seconds, but they both knew that the guy in front would win, no matter what position they would cross the finish line in. The distance between the 2 cars were only 4 meters, but after 5 minutes they got very close to Christian who was leading the heat. Now it was 3 cars driving within 3 meters with no room at all for mistakes. That was exactly what Christian did after 6 minutes. Søren passed on the inside, and Mike on the outside, while Christian spun out. This was also how they met the checkered flag, with 1 second between the cars. That was really close and exciting racing.
