- Tamiya FF03 - Andy - Carpet track - December 2010 -

I don't mean to step on anyone's toes for a carpet setup, but the setup I have been using that I'm pretty happy with is below. It's pretty aggressive, has tons of turn in and front traction, and is slightly loose in the back which is what I prefer. It does "Diff out", but I think only a spool or super tight diff might solve the "diff out", like we run on our M-05's on carpet. I think it's just a byproduct of the fwd drivetrain. My 1:1 MINI even has a bad case of it. I haven't tried adjusting droop at all, but when I added a front sway bar it killed any initial steering the car had and made it push like a bus. A stiffer rear spring would make more sense to me to keep the weight transfer to the rear less under acceleration. Plus on carpet the car has massive amounts of rear grip, which the stiffer spring would help reduce also.

My carpet setup. I started w/ Rod's setup from the Tamiya America track and made the following changes. Items not noted match Rod's setup sheet.

Front

- Oil = kit 400 (Didn't know what oil I had on hand is comparable to Tamiya 600 so I didn't change it)
- No spacer under inner camber link mount. Raising front roll center.
- Rocker arm spacer = 2mm
- Droop 4mm+/-

Rear

- No spacer under inner camber link mount. Raising rear roll center.
- Stabilizer Yellow (Hard). Reduced the massive amount of rear traction I had and helped steering response.
- Droop 4mm +/-

Other

- Wheelbase = Medium
- Motor = Losi 17.5 w/ timing ring advanced as far as possible.
- Gearing = 81/53
