- Team Associated RC12R5 - Dave Treacy - Setup to avoid front wheel lifting - 25.10.2008 -

I think some of us are still struggling with this... here's my setup...

Kit oil in shocks
Black side springs
Kit centre spring
BMI .20 front springs, no preload
Prism yellow rears at 44mm
Prism double pinks fronts at 42mm
Kit caster setting
-1.5deg camber
4mm ride height

Heat 1 - the car was ballistic for 7 mins, then either the back washed away or there was a whole bunch of extra steering from nowhere. The last minute was tough as I had to corner very slowly to prevent the car from hooking.

Heat 2 - I went to Lilac fronts and the hooking went away, but then I noticed the inside front wheel lifting. Got my best qualifying time for the day in this heat

Heat 3 - I raised the front ride height by 1mm to compensate for wear - I must have gone too far as I grip rolled like mad - horrible race (I tend to run rears once per day but fronts up to 3 times)

Final - I went to BMI .22 front springs and reset the ride height to 4mm - car was planted and no noticible wheel lift, so maybe that's sorted it, although I didn't get the precise steering I have with double pinks.

Funny thing is that the car was previously at it's best with yellow / double pink without problems when the tyres were bigger / newer, so I'm leaning towards thinking that once you lose the 4mm delta between front and rear the balance is somehow compromised.
